At the beginning of 1968, the Chevelle® was America's "most popular midsize car". The SSTM 396 was a powerful model with a base price of $2,899. The 6.5-liter top engine had 396 hp. More than 60,000 vehicles were produced in 1968 in a wide range of models, including convertibles and station wagons.
